1. Who you are contracting with

These Terms & Conditions are an agreement between you and Axel Carl Erik Lärka, the legal seller of the Sober Start application and website. Sober Start is the trading name used by Axel Carl Erik Lärka.

By creating an account or continuing to use the service, you agree to these terms. If you are using Sober Start on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it; if you are an individual, you confirm you are of legal age in your country.

2. What the service is

Sober Start is a self-help motivation and tracking tool for people who want to stop or reduce gambling. It provides streak tracking, daily check-ins, journalling, progress statistics, craving-support tools and a community feed. It is not medical treatment, therapy or professional advice, and it does not claim to diagnose, treat or cure gambling addiction or any other condition. If you need clinical or crisis support, contact a qualified professional or a local gambling support service.

3. Your account

  • Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • Keep your login credentials confidential; you are responsible for activity under your account.
  • One account per person unless we agree otherwise in writing.

4. Acceptable use

You must not misuse the service. In particular, you must not:

  • use Sober Start for any unlawful purpose, or for fraud, spam or harassment;
  • infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy rights, including in community posts;
  • upload malware, probe or interfere with our security, or scrape the service;
  • attempt to reverse engineer, resell, redistribute or circumvent technical limits of the service;
  • post content that promotes gambling operators, shames other members, or shares another person's personal information.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the journal entries, check-ins, reasons and community posts you create. You grant us a limited licence to host, store and process that content solely to provide the service to you. We may remove or restrict content that breaches these terms.

6. Intellectual property

Sober Start retains all rights in the service itself, including the software, design, branding, text and documentation. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service in line with your plan.

7. Service level

We work to keep Sober Start available and accurate, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free performance. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

8. Payment, subscriptions and Merchant of Record

Sober Start+ is offered at €4.99 per month or €39.99 per year, and includes a 7-day free trial. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Payment, billing, tax, invoicing, cancellation and refund mechanics are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms.

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.

9. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated or serious policy violations. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. When access ends, we will delete or anonymise your data in line with our Privacy Notice; you can request an export before closing your account.

10. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, consequential or special damages, including loss of profits, data or goodwill. Nothing limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury where the law does not allow it.

11. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your unlawful use of the service, or your breach of these terms.

12. Changes, law and contact

We may update these terms; material changes will be notified in the app. You may not assign this agreement without our consent; we may assign it in a merger or acquisition. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control. These terms are governed by the laws of Finland, and disputes go to the competent courts of Finland.
